Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas
Are a system of central schools for talented students predominantly from rural area in India. They are run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi, an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Each Vidyalaya has provision for a full-fledged campus with sufficient building for classrooms, dormitories, staff-quarters, dining-hall and other infrastructural facilities viz. play-grounds, workshops, library and labs etc. JNVs are fully residential and co-educational schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, with classes from VI to XII standard.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is made on the basis of a Selection Test, designed and conducted by the CBSE. The test is called the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST).
AGE
A candidate seeking admission must be within the age group of 9 to 13 years. This is applicable to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Castes(SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs)
EDUCATION
Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class-V for the entire academic session in a Government/Government-Aided, also candidate claiming admission from rural quota must have studied and passed Classes- III, IV and V from a Govt./Govt. Aided/ recognised school spending one full academic session each year in a school located in a rural area. A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of a session in any of the Classes-III, IV or V, will be considered as an Urban area candidate.
RESERVATIONOF VACANCIES
At least 75% of the seats in a district are filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats are filled from urban areas of the district.
Also, every Jawahar Navodaya Vidyaaya goes along with the state reservation policy.
There is a provision for reservation for ** Divyang children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped) as per GOI norms.
ENTRANCE EXAMINATION
The entrance exam is conducted for 6th class in the month of April . In order to optimally utilise the infrastructure and staff facilities available in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, vacant seats in Class 9th & 11th are filled up through Lateral Entry Test in case of any vacant seat available in academic session. The vacant seats available in each JNV is notified every year in the local newspapers by the JNV concerned of that district.
